Week of 8-26: The first two weeks of school, we will be working hard in developing routines in all content areas. We will begin our expedition the second week of school, How does your garden grow? During the first week, we will work on our school habits of Wonder, On-time, Leadership, Respect and responsibility (WORLD).
Week of 9-3: We continue to build routines in all content areas. We will begin our shared reading with a book called Yum Yum. We will also start our expedition and will visit our school garden.
Week of 9-9: We are working hard in all content areas. We are working on counting forward and back on a number chart. We continue our shared reading and work on things like retell, connections, etc. Our expedition is going great and we will be studying parts of a plant. *Please note that our first field trip will be on 10-3 to Anderson Farms and if you would like to be a volunteer you will need to sign up and go through the volunteer process (see the front office for more information).
We have been working hard so far! We are finishing up our shared reading on the Dragon song and will continue to work on strategies such as connections, retells, and predictions. In our expedition, we are divided into expert groups based on plant parts and are researching the job of our part. In math, we are counting by ones and fives and working on tally marks. We are learning a lot!

We have been working on a song called “In the Wild” for our shared reading. We worked on interpreting, rhythm, and asking questions. In math, we have been working on writing our numbers, writing what comes before and after, and telling time to the hour. This week we have been reading Signs of Spring and have been working on things like predicting and the message of the story. In our expedition, we are writing a narrative about our experience to Anderson Farms. In math, we worked on writing our numbers as high as we can (the goal for the end of the year is 120 or higher) and worked on hops on a number grid. Important reminders…

We have been having a great week! In our shared reading, we are reading a plant book that goes well with our expedition. In our expedition, we are learning about fruits and vegetables so we can start writing our mystery plant cards. In math, we are working hard on start and stop counting and will also begin working on patterns.
In other news, we will have a Halloween/Fall celebration. There will be a parade at the end of the day. Students may bring their costumes to put over their clothes for the parade. After the parade, we will have a few snacks (please sign up if you'd like to contribute-the list is in our classroom) and students can bring a board or a card game to play with. These games need to be a game that the child is familiar with and can teach other children as well as appropriate (non-violent). Likewise, costumes need to be appropriate such as appropriate coverage and no weapons/violent symbols or accessories.

Dear Family,
This week we are doing a shared reading on a poem called "Cats." We will be working on being fluent readers. In our expedition, we are using are research from our homework to create fruit and vegetable mystery cards. In math, we are working on patterns, rational counting (such as knowing how many dots are on a domino or dice), and counting nickels and pennies. We are working hard!
Important information:
- There is a sign-up sheet for items for our Halloween party! Please help contribute if you can.
-Students may bring a board game or card game to play at our Halloween party after the parade.
-The Halloween parade will start in the late afternoon and students will start to get ready a little after 1:30. You may come and help if you'd like or just come for the activities. The best time to come would be about 1:40 or after.

I hope you had a great break. This week, we are singing a song about wind and are making connections, working on fluency, and the author's message. 12-9 Dear Family,
We are reading the book called When the King Rides by and are working on confirming and adjusting our predictions. We will soon be done with our mystery cards and will begin some small moment writing. In math, we are working on solving number stories and measuring!
Other important information-
On 12-20, we will have a small celebration at the end of the day and will be creating a small surprise for our families. Once our surprise is over (around 2:30/2:40-we'd really like to keep it special for the kids and a surprise for their families), we'd like to invite the families for some treats and stories. I'd love to have some volunteers read their favorite winter books (please share a winter book rather than a holiday book-I will also have some winter books if you'd like to volunteer but do not have a book). It would be great to have children in small groups listening to stories and enjoying a treat. Children may come in their pajamas to make it extra cozy:) Also, I am looking for some volunteers to bring some snacks. We don't need much but would love for you to sign up if you can. I will have a sign -up sheet for both reading a book and bringing a snack in our classroom. Thanks!

This week is spirit week…today was crazy hair day, tomorrow is pajama day, Wednesday is jersey day, Thursday is backward day, and Friday is holiday spirit day and or pajama day (I told the kids they could wear their pajamas on this day ).

On Friday, students may bring Valentines but there needs to be one for every student (23). Please do not address the valentine. Students may put their name on the from part. At the end of the day, students will play card or board games so please bring one if you can!

Last week we had a great week and had an expert come to discuss her experience with gardens. Although I wasn't able to make it, I heard it was a great experience!
This week we are also doing lots of learning. In reading, we are reading a silly animal poem (ask your student to share his/her favorite part). In our expedition, we are continuing to study soil and erosion. In math, we are starting geometry and learning about the properties of different shapes.

In reading, we will sing about the royal drum and will compare it to the book we read last week. In our expedition, we are continuing to grow peas, tomatoes, and lettuce and are finishing up on soil. In math, we continue to work on time and money. Supporting your child in any way you can with time and money is greatly appreciated.

Last week we had a great week and an amazing trip to the Botanic Gardens. This week in reading we are reading a non-fiction book about spiders and are learning facts. In our expedition, we are learning about earthworms and have started a compost bin. In math, we are counting money, telling time, and showing equivalent names for numbers.

-5/13 from 5-7:30 is Family Night at the Botanic Gardens. This isn’t a field trip so children do need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian

Wow, I can't believe it is the end of the year! To celebrate a great year, we will have field day on June 3rd. Students need to dress appropriately and wear tennis shoes. Finally, June 6th will be the last day of school. This will be a half day with a dismissal time of 12. Students will eat lunch and then will be dismissed.

This week we are reading the poem “Somewhere” which is about nature. In our expedition, we are doing an experiment about the layers of soil. In math, we continue to practice solving number stories, telling time to the quarter hour, and identifying tens and ones.

2-3-14 Dear Family,
This week we will be working on non-fiction with an octopus book. In our expedition, we still continue to learn about the layers of soil. In math, we are reviewing tens and ones, patterns, and solving number stories.
Other important information:
-Our crew carpet has been fully funded! Thanks so much for your support!
-For Valentine’s Day students may choose to bring Valentines but if they do, there needs to be one for every student (23 students). Please do not address the to part (no written names for the recipient). The student can write his or her name on the from part-this allows for an easy distribution.
-On Valentine’s Day, students may bring a board game or a card game
-We will not have a snack sign-up but if students want to attach a small candy, pencil, sticker, etc. to their valentines that is fineJ
-Conferences will be on 2-18 and a note will go home indicating if a conference is recommended. If one is, please return your sheet as soon as you can.

Dear Family,
This week we will be reading The Old Man’s Mittens and will work on identifying the problem and solution. In our expedition, we are creating an annotated diagram of the properties of soil. In math, we celebrated the 100th day on Tuesday. We read a book, found a 100 Starbursts, and added to 100.
On Friday, students may bring Valentines but there needs to be one for every student (23). Please do not address the valentine. Students may put their name on the from part. At the end of the day, students will play card or board games so please bring one if you can!

Welcome back from a long weekend! This week we are reading a poem about caterpillars and are working on confirming and adjusting our predictions. In math, we are working on solving adding and subtracting problems. In our expeditions, we are making a diagram about the properties of soil.

This week we are reading a book about caterpillars and sharing facts that we learned. In our expedition, we are finishing our properties of soil diagrams and will begin learning about erosion. In math, we are working on adding and subtracting using in and out boxes.

Dear Family,
Last week we had a great week and had an expert come to discuss her experience with gardens. Although I wasn't able to make it, I heard it was a great experience!
This week we are also doing lots of learning. In reading, we are reading a silly animal poem (ask your student to share his/her favorite part). In our expedition, we are continuing to study soil and erosion. In math, we are starting geometry and learning about the properties of different shapes.
Important Information-
3-27 Denver Botanic Gardens will come and do a lesson with our class
4-18 field trip to the Botanic Gardens (more information will go home at a later date but if you'd like to volunteer please make sure that you have completed the volunteer program)
3-17 Dear Family,
This week we will be reading The Greedy Goat and will discuss the author’s message. In our expedition, we will write an all about erosion piece describing the three types of erosion. In math, we continue to work on geometry and are identifying and describing shapes.

3-24 Dear Family,
This week we are singing a song about singing and are working on identifying rhymes, rhythm, and repeated text. In our expedition, we will be planting seeds in our classroom and will be finishing up our learning on soil. During our break, I will be looking for a volunteer to help take care of our plants (please see me if you are interested). In math, we are finishing up geometry.

-Picture day is 3-27
-Please return field trip forms as soon as possible. This field trip is free of cost sponsored by GROW.

Welcome back! This week in our reading we will confirm and adjust our predictions using evidence. In our expedition, we will be finishing up our learning about soil and will begin learning about earthworms. In math, we are working on counting hundreds, tens, and ones, solving number stories, and counting money. To help reinforce what we are learning, you can help your child count and identify coins.
Important information-
-Our field trip is 4-18 so please bring in your permission slip if you need to. Students will need to bring a sack lunch on this day. Also if you plan on volunteering for the trip, please make sure that you have completed the volunteer program at the school (you must do this if you plan on joining us). Space is limited on the bus so I will also let you know if you will need to drive separately.

4-14 Dear Family,This week we will have an exciting week. We will be going to the Botanic Gardens on Friday! If you signed up to go, you must have completed the volunteer program-see the office for details. On Thursday, Century Link will come for J.A. (junior achievement) and will teach our class. In reading, we will sing about the royal drum and will compare it to the book we read last week. In our expedition, we are continuing to grow peas, tomatoes, and lettuce and are finishing up on soil. In math, we continue to work on time and money. Supporting your child in any way you can with time and money is greatly appreciated.

Last week we had a great week and an amazing trip to the Botanic Gardens. This week in reading we are reading a non-fiction book about spiders and are learning facts. In our expedition, we are learning about earthworms and have started a compost bin. In math, we are counting money, telling time, and showing equivalent names for numbers.
Important Information-
-5/13 from 5-7:30 is Family Night at the Botanic Gardens. This isn’t a field trip so children do need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian
-Please bring in candy items or candy themed items by 5-1 for our carnival basket

This week we will begin reading poetry. We will listen for rhymes, rhythm, and repeats. In math, we will continue to work on solving number stories. In our expedition, we are describing the physical characteristics of an earthworm.

5-5 Dear Family,
This week we will continue to read poetry and look for poetry traits. In our expedition, we are working on an A-Z earthworm book that we will showcase on our Celebration of Learning Night (5-21 more information will go home at a later date). In math, we are working on solving number puzzles!
Important information-
-We are in need of copy paper and Lysol wipes! If you can donate any of these items, we’d really appreciate it!
-Family Night at the Denver Botanic Gardens is 5-13 from 5-7:30 pm. There will be a bus at the school at 4:45 if you need transportation (children under the age of 5 will not be able to ride on the bus) and it will leave at 7:30 from the gardens. This is not a field trip so adults must come with their child.
5-12 Dear Family,
We are continuing to read various poems and working on rhymes, rhythm, repeats, and poem features. In our expedition, we are working on talking about our worm diagrams and our earthworm book which we will show you on our Celebration of Learning Night! In math, we are continuing to solve number stories and working on telling time.

-We are still in need of Clorox wipes and copy paper! If you can contribute, we’d really appreciate it!

5-19 Dear Family,
These last few weeks of school we will continue to read poems and learn different features of poetry. In our expedition, we will finish learning about earthworms and how they are helpful to the soil. In math, we will review time, money, and will continue working on solving number stories.
Important information:
-5-21 is Celebration of Learning/Expedition Night from 6-7:00
The students will be sharing their learning with you. They are very excited so please come if you can.
-6-3 is field day please make sure your child dresses appropriately. Please have students put on sunscreen prior to coming to school. If you’d like your student to reapply sunscreen, a parent or guardian must bring the sunscreen and apply it only on your child.
Dear Family,
Wow, I can't believe it is the end of the year! To celebrate a great year, we will have field day on June 3rd. Students need to dress appropriately and wear tennis shoes. If your child will be using sunscreen, please apply it before school-only parents/guardians of the child will be able to apply sunscreen to their child during the school day . Finally, June 6th will be the last day of school. This will be a half day with a dismissal time of 12. Students will eat lunch and then will be dismissed.
